In America the states requires cosmetologists to hold a valid license the perquisites for which vary from one state to another. General qualifications are a minimum age of sixteen years and graduation
Some states requirement is as little as 8th grade or a high schools graduation certificate. Cosmetologists applying for a license are required to pass a written test and test of abilities. In majority of North American states these practices are governed by the state health department..
The aspirants of beauty and cosmetology careers should take a course in these disciplines and complete it in order to apply for a license from state board or cosmetology board in their state.
There are private beauty schools in Florida, California, New York and many other states In USA's, which conduct the best cosmetology, beauty and health programs and issue certifications. The courses run by beauty schools offer many specializations apart from a general course.
Some of the specialization on cosmetology are as follows:
Hair stylist: for styling hair completely cutting, perms and colors etc.
Shampoo technician: For conditioning and shampooing a client’s hair and even assisting the hair stylists. They find employment in salons – beauty and spa – and corporates.
Manicurist/Pedicurist: For the treatment of shaping and applying nail polish on fingernails, hands and feet for the pedicurist. This is a creating job and some even apply designs on the nails.
Esthetician: He or She specializes in taking care including facials, microderma abrasion, relaxing treatments which involve many kind pf sheets called body wraps, exfoliation treatments, waxing make-up etc..
Nail care technician: Specializes in form and care of nails. Which includes manicure, pedicure, nail wrap etc. They hold knowledge on nail irregularities and disease diagnosis.
Electrologist: Specializes in hair removals using electrolysis process
Payment: a commission a percentage of fee received from the clients. Many are self employed and rent space in salon where he charges fee from clients. Hourly wages employed by corporates and small business chains.
